CaptainU believes strongly in the core mission of the NCAA. We are committed to upholding the bylaws set forth by the NCAA governing recruiting and college sports at large. We do everything in our power to make our software and the interactions it allows fully compliant with NCAA rules and regulations.
Our lawyers work closely with the NCAA to make sure that our understanding and interpretations of bylaws are consistent with the NCAA’s intentions. The result is software that has been evaluated by the NCAA’s compliance experts, modified where necessary, and given the green light.
User Responsibility. Despite our greatest efforts, there are inevitably ways in which the Site can be misused. As outlined in our Terms of Use, Users are entirely responsible for their use of the CaptainU and must therefore familiarize themselves with the NCAA rules governing recruiting.
Notations on the Site. Where possible, we note on the Site when specific precautions should be taken (i.e., we note on the video upload page that college videos cannot be made expressly for recruiting purposes, etc.) These notations, however, should not be considered an exhaustive list. Additionally, the fact that a note does not appear on a given page should not be taken as an indication that no potential compliance issues exist.
Compliance Resources. Answers to specific NCAA compliance questions can usually be found through the following resources:
- NCAA Websites – The entirety of the NCAA bylaws for Divisions I, II, and III are available through the NCAA’s website.
- NCAA Compliance Hotline – The NCAA maintains a compliance hotline. Some questions can be answered immediately over the phone, while written responses take 2-3 weeks.
- University Compliance Officers – Most NCAA colleges and universities have compliance officers who are available to provide interpretations to college coaches and prospective student-athletes.
